Candle

1. Stick of wax with a wick in the middle. We light candles when the power is off.
2. The basic unit of luminous intensity adopted under the System International d'Unites; equal to 1/60 of the luminous intensity per square centimeter of a black body radiating at the temperature of 2,046 degrees Kelvin. Light is sometimes measured in units of candle power.
3. To examine an egg for freshness or fertility by holding up before a bright light. We candled eggs during the hatching in the incubator.
