Dirt

1. Soil or earth. They dug a hole in the dirt to plant a tree.
2. A stain or spot (on clothes etc); and foreign substance that worsened appearance. Dirt on clothes may mean you have done some hard work.
3. Previously unknown negative fact (or invented "facts") about a person; gossip. The reporter uncovered some dirt on the businessman. We need to dig up some dirt on the political candidate.
