Fever

1. A higher than normal body temperature of a person (or, generally a mammal), usually caused by a disease. She had a fever of 103 degrees.
2. (usually in combination with one or more preceding words) Any of various diseases. She suffers from hay fever.
3. A state of excitement (of a person or people). It was a fever of anticipation.
4. A contagious, usually short-lived enthusiasm or craze. The disco fever effected many young people.
