Germ

1. The small mass of cells from which a new organism develops; a seed, bud or spore. Germs can be found on every object.
2. A pathogenic microorganism. Germs can be the source of many diseases.
3. An idea that forms the basis of some project. The start came from her germ of an idea.
4. The embryo of a seed, especially of a seed used as a cereal or grain. Wheat germ is a good nutritional source.
