Net
1. A trap made of netting to catch fish or birds or insects. We caught many
fish in our nets.
2. The excess of revenues over outlays in a given period of time (including
depreciation and other non-cash expenses). The net income was larger than
expected.
3. A goal lined with netting (as in soccer or hockey). The puck went into the
net for a score.
4. Game equipment consisting of a strip of netting dividing the playing area in
tennis or badminton. The badminton cock hit the net and we lost that point.
5. An open fabric woven together at regular intervals. The cook had a net on
her hair.
