1. Not taking side in a conflict such as war. Sweden was neutral in World War
II.
2. Favoring neither the supporting nor opposing viewpoint of a topic of debate;
unbiased. She was neutral in the discussion over the question of a sales tax.
3. (chemistry) Of or relating to a solution that is neither acidic nor
alkaline.
4. (color) Of or indicating a color, such as gray, black, beige or white. They
used neutral colors in their new kitchen.
5. (physics) Of or relating to a particle, an object, or a system that has
neither positive nor negative charge. The neutral wire should be the white wire.
6. An electrical terminal or conductor which has zero or close to zero voltage
with respect to ground. The neutral wire must be well grounded.
7. The position of a set of gears in which power cannot be transmitted to the
drive mechanism. The car was in neutral.
