1. Abbreviation. NW The direction or point on the mariner's compass halfway between due north and due west, or 45 degrees west of due north. We flew northwest to get to Tacoma.
2. The northwestern part of the United States. The Northwest tends to have more rainy weather.
3. Originating in or coming from the north. It was a cold northwest wind.
