Petrol

Petrol

1. Chiefly British. Gasoline.
2. A volatile mixture of flammable liquid hydrocarbons derived chiefly from crude petroleum and used principally as a fuel for internal-combustion engines and as a solvent, an illuminant, and a thinner. American would most likely use the term gasoline or just gas rather than petrol.
3. The term petrol also used in the American military. The petrol dump supplies oil, gas and lubricants. In Korea, my job was to go to the petrol dump to get a supply of gas and oil.
