1. To throw, usually with careful aim. He pitched the can out the window,
2. (baseball) To throw the ball from the mound to the batter. He threw a fast pitch.
3. To erect or establish; set up. We had to pitch our tent.
4. To set at a specified downward slant. They pitched the roof at a steep angle.
5. To attempt to promote or sell, often in a high-pressure manner. The local TV tried to pitch the new product.
6. To adapt so as to be applicable; direct. He pitched his speech to the teenagers in the audience.
7. To plunge headlong. He pitched over the railing to his death.
8. Any of various thick, dark, sticky substances obtained from the distillation of coal tar. They used pitch to seal the cracks in the hull of the boat.
9. A resin derived from the sap of various coniferous trees, such as firs and pines. His hand were covered with pitch from logging.
