Position
1. The right or appropriate place. The band was in the right position for the
start of the parade.
2. An area occupied by members of a force for a strategic purpose. The troops
took up positions along the main road.
3. A situation as it relates to the surrounding circumstances. They were in a
position to bargain with the company.
4. (sports) The area for which a particular player is responsible. He played
the position of center field.
5. A commitment to buy or sell a given amount of securities or commodities. We
took a buy position in IBM stocks.
6. A status or rank. Chief of Staff is the second highest position in the army.
7. A posture. Stand in this position, with your hands at your side.
8. An opinion, stand or stance. My position on this issue is unchanged.
