2. The point farthest from the front. It was in the rear of the hall.
3. The part of a military deployment usually farthest from the fighting front. They were the rear guard troops.
4. To care for (children) during the early stages in life. They reared seven children.
5. To raise up on the hind legs, as a horse. The horse reared in fright from the noise.
6. To tend (growing plants or animals). They reared sheep and goats.
