Stall
1. A compartment for one domestic animal in a barn or shed. The horses were
each kept in a stall.
2. A booth, cubicle, or stand used by a vendor, as in a market. He sold apples
in his stall.
3. The sudden, unintended loss of power or effectiveness in an engine. The car
stalled going up the hill.
4. A condition in which an aircraft or airfoil experiences an interruption of
airflow resulting in loss of lift and a tendency to drop. The plane went into a
stall.
5. To employ delaying tactics against. We need to stall our creditors.
