Corporal

1. A noncommissioned rank in the U.S. Army that is above private first class and below sergeant or in the U.S. Marine Corps that is above lance corporal and below sergeant. Three privates were promoted to corporal.
2. One who holds this rank. The corporal led the squad into battle.
