Siren

1. A device in which compressed air or steam is driven against a rotating perforated disk to create a loud, often wailing sound as a signal or warning. During the war, sirens were used to warn of an air raid.
2. An electronic device producing a similar sound as a signal or warning. The police car siren warned us of its passing. The police car sounded it siren to stop the speeding car.
