Tavern

1. An establishment licensed to sell alcoholic beverages to be consumed on the premises. Over time, the words tavern and inn became interchangeable and synonymous with one another.
2. An inn for travelers. Larger taverns provided rooms for travelers, especially in county seats that housed the county court.
