SYNONYMS:

These adjectives apply to what is unclean, impure, or unkempt.
Dirty,
the most general, describes what is covered or stained with dirt: dirty
clothes; dirty feet; dirty sidewalks.
Something that is
filthy
is disgustingly dirty: filthy rags; a room as filthy as a pigsty.
Foul
suggests gross offensiveness, particularly to the sense of smell: a foul odor;
a foul pond.
Nasty
can refer to what is unpleasant because of the presence of dirt (Scrubbing
bathrooms is a nasty job) but is often applied to what is merely annoying or
unpleasant (nasty ideas; a nasty trick).
Squalid
