Baoding Ancient Lotus Ponds

This ancient garden was first built in 675 A.D (the second year of Emperor Gaozong's reign in Tang Dynasty). It was named the Lotus Pond for the lush growth of lotus flowers in the pond. In 1733, the 11th year of Emperor Yongzheng in Qing Dynasty, the highest learning institute in Zhili Province, the Lotus Academy was set up in this garden.
