We have managed to secure some taxis. Here Mel Pleasant and I board a taxi. For the Olympics, about six weeks away, the city has greatly upgraded the taxi system to new and full-sized taxis. Many of the taxi drivers have taken English lessons. But you had best have your destination written down in Chinese characters. Most hotels will give you cards with that to give to taxi drivers. Hang on to the card to get back to your hotel.
