Church Services in Xiamen, Fujian 2. Main Choir - 1994-5 This is the Chinese Christian Church we attended in Xiamen, Fujian Province. It is on an Island in the harbor of Xiamen. This is the main choir of the Church. The sanctuary holds about 1,000 people and is always full. This is the Christmas Evening service. To accommodate everyone they hold four services on different nights. It is filled to capacity each night with many hanging out the windows. When we went there was a sign in Chinese in the front pew saying that it was reserved for important people. So we dutifully went to a back seat. They then came to us and said we were the important people. They did a Chinese Modern opera with some professional singers they brought in to sing. It was a wonderful performance. The choir often travels around the country and to Hong Kong for performances. We became good friends with some of the choir members. Bernice and I donated 500 Chinese dollars for the purchase of some choir music. When Bernice got burned in an accident and was in the hospital the pastors and the choir came to the hospital to comfort and sing to her. We were considered members of this Church.
