Formerly known as Jingling, it was renamed to Tianmen in 1726 during Qing Dynasty. Situated in the north subtropical monsoonal climate, It covers a total area of 2622 square kms. It has abundant sunshine but wet. The city's history goes back a very long way. Archaeologists, in fact, claim a castle they have excavated in Tianman dates back to 4000 BC. As a tourist city along the Yangtze River, Tianmen is the one of great beauty, combining rivers culture and city as an integral whole. It is the hometown of Lu Yu, who is respected as "the Sage of Tea" for his contribution to Chinese tea culture.
