Tieling is a prefecture-level city in Liaoning Province of the People's Republic of China. The population is 3 million at the 2nd of 2004. Tieling is a multiethnic area where the majority Han and the minorities Manchu, Korean, Mongolian, Hui, Xibo, Uygur, and ethnic Russians live in a compact community. The minorities make up 23.2% of the total population. Present realm of Tieling was dominated by Kitan and Koguryo kingdoms in ancient times. The name of Tieling first appeared in the Ming Dynasty as Tieling Wei which was later reestablished in Yinzhou.
