Our 2008 China Eclipse Trip - Page 19
Gardens in the City of Suzhou
A good friend will accompany us to Suzhou and we will spend two days touring
the gardens and perhaps a silk factory.
Mid Lake Pavilion of the West Garden in the City of Suzhou. Nearby the
Lingering Gardens, West Garden (Xiyuan) was given to a Buddhist monastery. The
temple was destroyed in the Taiping Rebellion, and then rebuilt. Suzhou was
spared destruction during World War II, and its private gardens, as well as its
canals, have survived over the centuries.
