The countryside to the Stone Forest still ranks among the most beautiful in China. The ride to the Stone Forest can be as interesting as the site itself. Roadside factories are busy carving up figures of lions from white stone. Others cook ducks in small brick furnaces outside cafes. You can see horse carts serving as local busses, 10 people standing on each trailer. Tractors pulling massive loads of brick and stones can be seen. The Yunnan countryside is a vast quarry.
