Lanzhou, Gansu Province 1. The Yellow River Bridge into Lanzhou In 1985 our boss in Chengdu gave us 4,000 Yuan and sent us on a trip around China. We visited Yunnan in the south, travel led to Xi'an in the north and then west to Lanzhou. One of our students was a scientist in Lanzhou at the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Atomic Energy. The student had invited us to visit him at his home in Lanzhou in Gansu Province. Chinese New Year holiday meant crowded trains but we managed to get beds on the train to Lanzhou. We took this picture at Lanshan, a mountain just south of the city. You can see the bridge across the Yellow River going into town. We toured the atomic institute facilities with our student and had a wonderful dinner at his home. The student, Lloyd, later visited us in the USA and we took him touring southern California and to Disneyland. Current population of the city stands at 1,408,658. ⇦ Back to Page 13 On to Page 2 ⇨Return to Lanzhou Scenes - Page 1 |
