17. Purple Mountain Observatory

The Observatory has eleven research divisions and a workshop for equipment maintenance. In the early 1980's, the Observatory had a staff of about 250 research and technical people.

The research divisions are engaged in the fields of study of the sun, stars, planets, orbital theory of artificial satellites, radio astronomy. practical astronomy, astronomical equipment, computations and theoretical astronomy.
