30. Nanjing Bridge over Yangzi River

We arrived in Nanjing in the middle of the night at about 1:00 AM. We got a man on a three-wheel bike to take us to a hotel. It was raining and the people who were to meet us did not come to meet us because no one had called them to say what time we were coming. We got to a hotel and the next day someone called and was most relieved we were there and OK. They then took us on a tour of the city. The bridge was completed December 23, 1968 after it was abandoned by the Russians in 1960. The bridge is double decked with rail traffic on the lower deck. The upper deck is 6,500 meters long.
