6. Chinese "Coolies" Boiling the Salt, Zigong, Sichuan

These men worked very hard for their money as the sweated to extract the salt crust being stewed at the Zigong salt site. Abundant natural gas found in the area was used for the fuel. The word "Coolie" comes from a Chinese word "Kuli" and means "Bitter Labor."
