12. The Saving Lake

There is a sign on a tree nearby that states in Chinese "No Swimming." This is actually a reservoir for the University of Xiamen. This is the lake that saved Bernice's life after we discovered that the alcohol fire could not be put out any other way. Paul throws Bernice into the lake. She has been badly burned. Some flesh on her arm floats off in the water. Almost immediately some small fish arrive to munch on the food. Paul hopes Bernice doesn't see it but it is too late and she does. In the hospital she dreams about the fish eating her.
