Overweight charges are somewhat severe. This limit is on domestic flights within China. Train travel is inexpensive and you can check luggage. We did so but it took two hours to get our bags back. Cost was somewhat low. |

Airline travel in reasonable except during their Spring festival and then it tends to double in price. Local bus service is very inexpensive generally 12 to 25 cents within town. Local buses are very frequent, generally one every 3 minutes. Taxis are very cheap by American standards. Most cities have a minimum fare of from 5 to 10 Chinese dollars (60 to $1.20 cents US). There are some 20,000 taxis in Wuhan operating 24 hours a day. Make sure your taxi driver puts down the flag and pay only what is on the flag. Tipping is not done in China. Most do not speak English so it is best to have destinations written down in Chinese to show to the drivers. Only very hardy travelers use the long distance busses. We did once for a seven-hour trip. Cost amounted to 65 Yuan ($8 US). |
