This bill in the era of the late 1990s features Chairman Mao Zedong who established the People's Republic of China. His lifetime spanned from 1893 to 1976. The blank spot on the opposite side of Mao has a picture of a rose and the number 20 that can only be seen by holding the bill up to the light.
