Zhang Tianlong with a black symbolic face plays a part in the opera "Double Sand River," adapted from a folk tale of the Song Dynasty. Generals of the Yang family are sent to attack the state of Tubo. They are opposed by Zhang Tianlong, the Tubo King's son-in-law, and his wives Princess Yubao and Yuzhen at the Double-Sand River. Enchanted by the handsome features of the Song generals Gao Neng and Yang Xian, the two princesses defect to them. Together they kill Zhang Tianlong.
