Image 9 Now the highway exit toward Shi Ping - one of the towns along the way to Yuan Yang - was coming up. All was as expected until the toll booth came into plane view. It was immediately obvious that this wasn't a toll booth of the kind that would signal the end of one highway and the start of another. No, this was a toll booth that said: this is the end of the highway. The toll booth attendant confirmed our fears: from here to Shi Ping there was only a provincial road, and one in bad need of repair to boot. "What about the highway?" we asked.
