Paul Gets a Ride Across Town

Paul Dies in China -- Part 3

A Prayer is Answered

I needed help and immediately the Church song flashed through my mind, "What needless pain you suffer, because you need to take it to the Lord in Prayer." I told the Lord I needed help but I didn't know what was happening to me or what was wrong but that I needed help. I immediately fell into a deep sleep and slept for almost 20 hours. When I awoke I felt much better.

Treatment for a Month

They had put me into a hospital that was for high government officials. I had a private room. The doctors gave me every test that they had to give. I think they wanted to see if the foreigners tested different than the Chinese. They gave me an EKG. This is the equipment that does the testing. They put another device in your room and it transmits to this device for results.

Paul Gets a Ride Across Town

We Travel Across Town for Therapy

Each day two nurses transport me across town to another location for therapy and acupuncture treatment. This would always draw a crowd to see what was going on and by the time we got there we would have a large crowd following us. At the therapy clinic I would get electric treatment along with many needles. When people in the clinic saw a foreigner the room would fill up and most would give the doctor their advice.

I Leave the Hospital

The Chief Doctor of the Hospital came to see me when I was leaving. She told me several things. First, that, "I was lucky, that we don't save many in your condition." Second, "I was the only one in that hospital that was going to leave the hospital alive." Most were old Communist Stalwarts who had advanced cases of emphysema and were on oxygen. She did prescribe a years supply of multivitamins for me which my Boss paid for. That month in the hospital cost 500 Yuan ($100 USD).
