Class C Chengdu, Sichuan 1987

This is Class C at Chengdu, Sichuan in 1987. The Monitor was Kirt Wu. They did not have a foreign teacher because of a shortage of teachers. Kirt came to Paul and asked if he could get them a teacher. We had been using some Canadian Engineer's Wives for some of the other classes. Kirt was so eager for his class to succeed that Paul took on the additional job of teaching this class. It was the most rewarding class he has ever had. Their English level was so low but they tried so hard they passed up Class B. Here is the entire class on an outing Kirt has organized. Kirt made outstanding progress in his English speaking. All of these students are Scientists for the Chinese National Academy of Sciences. They all have advanced degrees.
