Before the establishment of The People's Republic of China, Chongqing was a consumer city. During the anti-Japanese War. It was the seat of the KMT capital. The late Zhou Enlai who led the South Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party's Central Committee and the Office of the Eighth Route Army, lived and worked in Chongqing for eight years. In Autumn, 1945, the late Chairman Mao Zedong, in a revolutionary indomitable spirit, personally came here to negotiate with the KMT in an attempt to bring about a bright future for China.

The places where Comrades Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai lived and worked have now become the "Red Crag Village Revolutionary Memorial Hall." The Revolutionary Martyrs' Tomb, at the foot of Mount Gelo is open to visitors and is worth seeing. The site of the Sino-American Special Technical Cooperation Organization has been turned into an exhibition center.

Chongqing is a beautiful mountain city built on hillsides and along riverbanks. Overlooking from the Loquat Hill that juts out in town where you can have a magnificent view of the city. The night scene of the city is even more fascinating with millions of lights sparkling in the sky.

On the crest of the city, Eling Park graces Chongqing with delicate miniature landscapes. Nanshan, Wangshan and Mt. Jinyun with age-old trees and bamboo groves are worth visiting. Swimming and bathing in the Hot Springs of the Southern and Northern Parks appeal to all. In the zoo there are such rare animals such as pandas and golden haired monkeys. The museum in Chongqing has on display dinosaur fossil skeletons and many other relics. About 150 kilometers from Chongqing you will find the famous super sized stone sculptures in Dazu. You regret it if you miss the magnificent Yangzi Gorges as you leave Chongqing. After the dam on the Yangzi River is completed this sight will be gone forever.
