Shaolin Temple in Henan Province 11. Forest of Pagodas in the Snow This forest of 227 stone reliquary monuments to memorializes the early Abbots. It covers over 1,000 years of Buddhist funerals, beginning with that of a Tang Dynasty abbot they buried here in the year 746. These are many centuries old. Each pagoda-like structure -- called a stupa -- houses the remains of a Shaolin elder known for his learning, virtue, or proficiency at the martial art of Kungfu. I think you got a higher stupa depending on your importance or maybe your likability. ⇦ Back to Page 10 On to Page 12 ⇨Return to Shaolin Temple Page 2 |
