Shaolin Temple in Henan Province 15. Shaolin Temple Tourists Shown here, adjacent to the Forest of Stupas can be seen a courtyard of open-air pavilions containing scores of wooden statues --- monks in all the classical poses of a feverish kung fu battle. Here some tourists view some of the exhibits of the monks in various poses in the ancient days. Plan to spend enough time to view all of the exhibits at the temple. With so many traditional arts centered at one historic site, Shaolin Monastery has become a popular movie set as well as schools for domestic and foreign classes in self-defense. One of the most important exhibits, the Thousand Buddha Hall, dating back to 1588, depicts a fresco of monks engaging in battle. ⇦ Back to Page 14 On to Page 16 ⇨Return to Shaolin Temple Page 2 |
