Chinese Temple Scenes 24. Wang Jian Tomb In the northwest of Chengdu, the tomb of Wang Jian was until 1942 thought to be Zhuge Liang's music pavilion. The tomb in the central building is surrounded by statues of 24 musicians all playing different instruments, and is considered to be the best surviving record of a Tang Dynasty musical troupe. Wang Jian (847-918 AD) was a Tang General who established the Former Shu Kingdom in the aftermath of the collapse of the Tang in 907. Also featured are relics taken from the tomb itself, including a jade belt, mourning books and imperial seals. We visited there and enjoyed it. ⇦ Back to Page 23 On to Page 1 ⇨Return to China Temples Page 3 |
