22. 1,000 Year Old Nanputuo Temple in Xiamen, Fujian

A good place to visit. They serve a wonderful vegetarian dinner here. We have eaten here several times. Take a tour here if you have the time. Marvelously restored, it has been here for a 1,000 years. Nanputuo temple, right outside the #1 Bus terminus and XiaDa`s old gate, sprawls across the Five Old Man Mountains like a Chinese miniature landscape on steroids. The complex`s original structures were built over 1,000 years ago, during the Tang Dynasty, and now include the Heavenly Emperor Palace, the Grand Majestic Treasure Palace, the Buddhist Scripture Pavilion, and the Great Benevolent Ticket Seller.

NanPutou ("Nan" means "south" , and "Putuo" is one of China`s four sacred mountains, up in Zhejiang) is home to a few hundred monks - and a few hundred statues as well, like the Reverend Three - Life - Cycle Buddha, the Four Heavenly Kings, the Eighteen Arhats, and the Bodhisattva (Thousand Handed Guanyin).
