Transportation in China in 1988 Chinese Toll Road - 3 The Chinese National Freeway 109 goes by Xinzheng. It goes from Beijing in the North to Wuhan in the South. It is a four lane divided freeway with dedicated on and off ramps. The center is planted with trees and the road well maintained. The speed limit is 110 Km/h (65 mph) for cars and 90 Km/h (55 mph) for trucks. Freeways are not free in China. The cost varies by type of vehicle. We once rode in a Police car at 190 Km/h on this road. There seems to be no enforced weight limit and some of the loads would make a teamster pale to see it. ⇦ Back to Page 2 On to Page 4 ⇨Hi-Res Pic (120K) Return to 1988 Transportation Page 1 |
