Transportation in China in 1988 Coal Truck - 9 This part of China in Henan was millions of years ago, a great jungle. It is part of the Yellow River Valley. Later, millions of billions of tons of yellow loess soil has covered the rotting vegetation for millions of years. This created the vast coal fields. Some 1.5 billion tons of soil still comes down the Yellow River each year. The result is vast coal fields in this area. The weather people predict big floods for this are later this summer. Hundreds of coal trucks thunder down this highway daily carrying coal. The State will allow 14 large state-run coal companies to go bankrupt to ease the over supply of coal. The State is also in the process of converting to natural gas to control pollution. ⇦ Back to Page 8 On to Page 10 ⇨Hi-Res Pic (118K) Return to 1988 Transportation Page 2 |
