21. New Hotel Construction

Many former single and 2-story housing have been removed to allow the construction of a multi-story 5-star hotel. A tall building in the back has also been partially removed. I took this photo from the top of the only hotel in Chengdu (city of 2.6 million in 1985, 11 million in 2010). In 1985 the Jinjiang Hotel was the only hotel allowed to have foreigners. The American government established their Consulate in this hotel temporarily in 1988 until a new consulate building could be built.
