Visit to Alicia Chai's Family in Zhengzhou

1. Zhengzhou Long Distance Bus Station

Our first encounter with Alicia Chai impressed me. Her lively manner, good English and self-confidence immediately set her apart from the average student at SIAS University. When Bernice and I teach in China, on the first day we put on the blackboard our name, apartment number and our phone number. We invite all the students to visit us in the evenings to practice their English. About 20% take you up on the offer. Alicia became one of those who visited us often to practice her English. A pretty young lady with a ready and ever present smile Alicia became a favorite of both Bernice and me. She invited us to visit her at her home in Zhengzhou the next weekend. Zhengzhou lies about 40 miles from Xinzheng. She arranged for us to ride on the SIAS bus that goes into Zhengzhou each Saturday morning. However that morning for some reason the bus did not go to Zhengzhou. So we rode the city bus to the Xinzheng long distance bus station. From there we took a bus to Zhengzhou. The picture shows the long distance bus station in Zhengzhou. From there we took a taxi to Alicia's apartment in the city where we would spend the day.
