Chamoisee Color 174 - #A0785A

Capra aegagrus hircus There are many recognized breeds of domestic goat. Goat breeds (especially dairy goats) are some of the oldest defined animal breeds for which breed standards and production records have been kept. Selective breeding of goats generally focuses on improving production of fiber, meat, dairy products, or goatskin.

Oberhasli (Oh'-bare-hoss-lee) are a color breed, meaning they must be correctly colored and marked to be registered with the American Dairy Goat Association. Does (females) may be solid black or chamoisee while bucks (males) may only be registered if they display correct chamoisee coloring, black males cannot be shown because this is a sign of inbreeding. 'Chamoisee' (shawm-wah-zay') is defined as bay (medium to dark reddish brown).

This breed is a good choice for a person who wants dairy goats for milk production from hardy thrifty animals.
