Maroon (HTML/CSS) Color 565 - #800000

Maroon is a dark brownish-red color, which takes its name from the French word marron, or chestnut. The Oxford English Dictionary describes it as "a brownish crimson or claret color." In the RGB model used to create colors on computer screens and televisions, maroon is created by turning down the brightness of red by about half. Maroon is derived from French marron ("chestnut"); from the Italian marrone, from the medieval Greek maraon. The first recorded use of maroon as a color name in English was in 1789.
