The original, darker powder blue color referred to smalt, a crushed-glass product used in laundering and dyeing applications and of a deep, dark blue hue. Cobalt glass is a deep blue colored glass prepared by adding cobalt salts of alumina to the molten glass. It is appreciated for its attractive color.
