Joe Kassen of 581st Signal Radio Relay Company in Korea
Served 1962 to 1963 as Site Chief at Tacoma Relay Site #10 near Kunsan Air Base (K8)
Paul, very good to hear from you and thank you. I was not on a site in Korea
with the 581st during the Korean "Police Action" from 1950 to 1953 as you were!
Your tour was 10-12 years prior to my tour in Korea. I was the site chief at
Tacoma Relay Site - 10, near Kunsan Air Base (K-8) from Feb. 1962 to March
1963. At that time, the 581st was a RAD RLY site for the 38th ADA, EUSA. My
Signal Company HQ was at Pyong Teak (K-6). I believe it was Camp Humphries. We
had a Long Lines Company contingent of 2 enlisted military techs, and two Long
Lines (microwave) Korean Techs. I thought you would enjoy the license plate
image. I have not been able to discern the hill number of my radio site. Maybe
you could ask that on the web site. Thank you and keep in touch, if you want,
and advise me of any other input. When I was there we supported Hawk missile
sites.
