581st Radio Relay Co. in North Korea (1950)
18. North View from Jade 2 It is the middle of November. It is getting colder and snow has fallen. We never did have a lot of snow but it did get cold. This is a picture looking to the north and shows the small town of Sinchon. There has been no fighting in this area so the war has not affected this town yet. The shops and stores are doing well. I spend some time at the local telephone company helping with some repairs. We have become good friends with many of the town people. We buy rice to go with our dinners. We often mix it with the Danish bacon I had liberated from the Marines at Wonson. We buy vegetables, eggs and pickled kimchi for variety in our meals. The weather is getting colder by the day and snow has begun to fall. The radios are performing well with occasional failures. I do shifts on the radios and maintenance work. At times we have to substitute a transmitter and fix the old one. We are earning our pay. Hi-Res Pic (134K) ⇦ Back to Scene 17 Return to Page 3 On to Scene 19 ⇨ |
