Salem Radio Relay Station
18. Harry Shively and Roger Lentz Roger and I were assigned to the base camp at Kumi during the summer of 1952. We had direct communication to the relay site by a landline. It was our job to get supplies from Taegu, which was 40/50 miles away. On a typical trip we would leave in the morning, one driving, and one riding shotgun. Traveling was slow over narrow, dusty, and steep mountain roads. There were no paved roads between Kumi and Taegu. After making the necessary rounds to quartermaster units, we would make the return trip. By the time we reached the base camp the day had ended. Roger Lentz was from Mankato, Minn., and the most principled GI that I ever knew. (No vices) On to Scene 19 Back to Scene 17Hi-Res Pic (108K) Return to Page 3 |
