Kumi Village Welcomes the President Elect Ike Salem Radio Relay Station
11. Kumi Village Welcomes the President Elect Ike

These pictures were taken in Kumi when "Ike" fulfilled his presidential candidacy promise to visit Korea and stop the war. Banners were strung; citizens, elders and school kids marched. The whole village turned out but I don't think "Ike" showed up. It was good publicity for Americans in the USA, but it was a pain in the neck for GIs who had to be ready for his visit in case he came your way. The banner in back says, "Thirty Million Koreans Welcome the General.
